Visa On Arrival - (not an option)

Although it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival (Visado en Frontera) this is only granted in exceptional circumstances, the decision being taken by the National Police (Comisaría de Policía) at the airport or sea-port of arrival. Besides, it is very unlikely that any airline would allow a passenger who needs an entry visa to land in the European Union, to board the aircraft without one.

The situation in sea-ports is different, especially for seamen, or for passengers who may be forced to leave the ship for an emergency or humanitarian reason.

The decision to grant a visa to such people depends also on the fulfilment of all usual requirements, such as financial status, valid documentation, etc.

The main focus of this short message is that, if because of your nationality you need a visa, you MUST obtain it in your country of residence BEFORE departure, or you will not be accepted by the airline or any other type of operator.

If you are in doubt whether you need a visa, close this page and use the blue widget further down on the right-hand side of the web-page to check the requirements for your nationality. To make absolutely sure, call the nearest Spanish Consulate to get information on the latest Visa legislation.
