The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe complex is in fact made up of four hotels in two separate buildings. On one side, there is the Adults-only Barcelo Bavaro Beach; while on the other, the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe proper offers two additional levels of service and accommodation: the Family Club, and the Club Premium Deluxe, with great added amenities that include Champagne, evening canapes, and a quiet, reserved breakfast retreat. (click on the blue box at the bottom of the page to choose the correct hotel).
Guests from the Adults-Only resort are allowed to use the facilities of the other hotels with the exception of the La Comedie and Kyoto restaurants. In the opposite direction, with the exception of those staying at the Club Premium, the Adults-only area is for its own guests.
The complex has its own golf course, with reasonable fees, considered to be one of the best deals in the region.
If you want a rest from the all-inclusive bars and restaurants, a few minutes' walk along the Bavaro beach you come to Playa Bibijagua: souvenir shops, water excursions and activities, bars, and restaurants including the Comedor Bibijagua, which offers real, traditional Dominican food at reasonable prices. The fact that it is a favourite of the locals says everything.
Another alternative to escape the resort for a few hours is the San Juan Shopping Center, a 20-minute walk (or a short taxi ride) away from the coast, the other side of the golf course. It has shops, bars, restaurants, and a supermarket.
